That one calendar quirk shapes more of your 2027 budget than any exchange rate will: UK schools typically break up in the third week of December, which squeezes the entire British Lapland season into two tight weeks pressed right up against the day itself. Everyone wants the same flights.
So, three lines for this month. If you are going in December 2027, watch the charter operators now, take a first-release package price if the itinerary genuinely suits you, and set a reminder for spring 2027 when scheduled airline seats load. If you are going in January to April 2027, relax: flights and hotels are already open, prices barely move, and you can book a fare this week and sort the rest later. Either way, nothing about a 2027 trip requires panic today except Christmas week flights.
What is already on sale for 2027
More than people expect, and less than the operators’ marketing implies. Inghams was selling Santa Breaks of 3, 4 and 7 nights for both 2026 and 2027 on its own pages in September 2026, so a December 2027 charter package is bookable right now if you want the certainty.
Santa’s Lapland was selling its current season, late November to 24 December 2026, out of 16 UK airports. Its 2027 release was not confirmed on the pages I checked in September 2026, which means the honest answer is “check the operator” rather than a date I would be inventing. TUI, Canterbury Travel and Transun all list 2026-27 Lapland programmes; their December 2027 status was likewise not published when I looked.
The accommodation side runs ahead of the charter side. Arctic SnowHotel near Rovaniemi was already selling 2027-28 packages in August 2026, which tells you how far out the resorts are willing to take money. Scheduled airline seats are the laggard: for December 2027 they are simply not loaded yet.
The booking timeline for December 2027
Christmas week in Lapland is the one trip where booking early genuinely pays, because the constraint is not price, it is inventory. There are only so many glass igloos, and only so many charter seats on the two or three departure days that work for a UK family.

Both sides of that decision have a cost. Booking at first release buys you the good dates and the departure airport you actually want, but it locks you into a fixed itinerary and a deposit you will not see again if plans change. Waiting keeps you flexible, and on a quiet week it occasionally saves you money when an operator dumps unsold seats. On Christmas week it mostly leaves you choosing from what nobody else wanted, because the thing running out is inventory rather than value.
For a normal week in Lapland, activities need a few weeks of notice and no more. Christmas week is the exception, every single year, and the Christmas-week husky and reindeer slots go through the autumn, not on arrival.

April deserves a specific mention. Snow is still deep, days are long, and it is the friendliest month for anyone who found the idea of December darkness alarming. The Christmas crowd has gone home and the summer crowd has not arrived.

The Finnish ski weeks are the one most British visitors have never heard of and then run straight into.
