Around Rovaniemi you can sleep under glass a short walk from Santa’s office, or out in forest dark enough that the aurora is the only light over the bed. That choice matters more than which resort has the bigger dome, so the stays below are sorted by kind of trip: families who want Santa on foot, couples after a private sauna under a dark sky, and anyone who wants huskies and snow at the door.
At a glance
- How many: 13 glass igloo places within about 40 km of the city, from two-person huts to a village of 71 igloos.
- What they cost: 853€ to 1,723€ a night for two in mid-January, breakfast included (Booking.com, October 2026).
- The trade-off: igloos inside Santa Claus Village sit under village lighting; the darker skies are 10 to 30 km out of town.

Which glass igloos are near Rovaniemi?
Visit Rovaniemi, the city tourism board, lists them all, and the word covers very different things: a heated glass roof over the bed, glass walls under a solid ceiling, small huts with no shower, and AuroraHut boats that sit on the ice in winter.
Every place here is close enough to fly in and be under glass the same evening. Kakslauttanen, Levin Iglut, Northern Lights Village and Star Arctic are all several hours further north, where the aurora odds are better and the drive is longer.
Pick by the kind of trip
Most trips fit one of three kinds of stay. Each table gives the Booking.com rate for two in mid-January, breakfast included, read in October 2026.
Next to Santa: families and short trips
Walk to Santa’s office, minutes from the airport, with no driving after dark. The village stays lit all night, so the sky over the glass is brighter than out of town.
| Stay | How far | What you get | Mid-January | Booking.com score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Santa’s Igloos Arctic Circle | In the village, 5 km from the airport | Glass roof; a few igloos with their own sauna or hot tub | 1,165€ with sauna | 8.9 |
| Glass Resort | In the village, 3 km from the airport | Glass apartment with sauna and hot tub, dinner included | 1,355€ | 9.6 |
| Arctic TreeHouse | Beside the village, 3 km from the airport | A glass wall rather than a glass roof | 751€ | 8.6 |
Your own sauna under a dark sky: couples
Out of town, with a private sauna in every unit and far less light over the glass. All three are new or growing this winter, so reviews are still few.
| Stay | How far | What you get | Mid-January | Booking.com score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Halo Igloos | 20 minutes north of town | Glass roof, private sauna and hot tub, dinner included | 1,283€ | 9.7 |
| SkyView Igloo Resort | 10 minutes from town | Two-floor suite: glass-roof bedroom, sauna, hot tub, kitchen | 1,723€ | 9.6 |
| Aava Glass Igloos | 15 minutes from town | Glass roof, private sauna, kitchenette | 919€ | New, no reviews yet |
More to do on site: forest and lake
Further into the forest, with the day’s activities starting at the door.
| Stay | How far | What you get | Mid-January | Booking.com score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apukka Resort | On a lake, 10 minutes from the airport | Glass roof; huskies and reindeer on site, snowsuits lent | 1,047€ | 9.3 |
| Arctic SnowHotel | 30 minutes from town | Glass igloo with a snow hotel next door, entry included | 746€ in early January | 8.8 |
Three smaller places suit a simpler stay: Shaman Village has four log igloos by a river at 853€ in mid-January, Nova Galaxy Village rents adults-only huts with a wood sauna instead of a shower from 432€ in November, and Aito Igloo & Spa, the furthest out, puts the spa and airport transfers in the price.
When it costs less
Late November is the cheap end of the winter: Halo was 900€ a night against 1,283€ in mid-January, and Aava 568€ against 919€. Christmas week is the opposite. By mid-October most of these resorts were sold out on Booking.com, and the few rooms left at Halo, SkyView and Aava ran from 2,245€ to 4,807€ a night, depending on how many nights you book. Rates are Booking.com prices per night for two adults, read on 15 October 2026, and change every season.
Dark sky or short drive
Streetlights and lit buildings wash out the aurora. The season runs from late August to early April, and displays are most common between 22:00 and 02:00. Santa Claus Village is lit all night, so the igloos there trade sky for a walk to Santa, and aurora guides drive 20 to 30 km out of the city for the same reason.
The darkest sites are Arctic SnowHotel, Halo and Nova Galaxy, all in forest well out of town. Apukka’s lake gives the open northern horizon. SkyView and Aava sit on a hill at the forest edge, better than the village and not true wilderness. No glass roof helps under cloud, so check the cloud and activity outlook on the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s aurora pages before you set an alarm.
How early to book
Christmas week is the one that disappears: by mid-October most resorts here were already sold out on Booking.com. For Christmas and New Year, book six to twelve months ahead; for January and February, three to four months; for late autumn and March, one or two months is usually enough. Arctic SnowHotel was already selling early-bird packages for 2027-28 in August 2026.
How I researched this
I read each property’s own site and Visit Rovaniemi’s glass igloo and northern lights pages in October 2026, then checked Booking.com rates for the same four sets of dates on 15 October 2026, two adults per night. Nobody from Lapland Trip Planner has stayed at any of these places; this is a researched comparison, not a review.

Common questions
Can you really see the northern lights from the bed?
Yes, on a clear night in season. Cloud beats the glass every time and no resort can promise a display; the igloos out of town have the better odds.
Which Rovaniemi igloos have a private sauna and hot tub?
Every igloo at Halo, SkyView and Glass Resort has both. Aava gives each suite a private sauna. At Santa’s Igloos Arctic Circle only ten igloos have a sauna and two have a hot tub, so book the room type, not the hotel.
Do I need a hire car?
Not in Santa Claus Village, where the bus runs. Out of town you need something: Halo sells a winter shuttle seat for 10€, Apukka charges 8€ an adult, Aito includes transfers, and Arctic SnowHotel is 30 minutes from anywhere.
Best Booking Resources for Lapland
These are the booking tools I keep coming back to. They consistently offer the best prices, the most relevant options for northern Finland, and actually work well for Lapland-specific searches, which not all platforms do.
- Kiwi.com: The best source for finding flights and airport connections. I have noticed they find flight connections that other search engines miss.
- Booking.com: I almost always use them for booking hotels and apartments (and occasionally flights). They have the best filters and I like the user-friendly interface.
- Hotels.com: The most popular hotel booking platform in many countries, US included.
- Get Your Guide: A massive selection of tours and excursions, including aurora tours, husky rides, reindeer experiences and more!
- EconomyBookings: Want to explore Lapland or chase auroras yourself? They pool together the best offers from car rental operators for your convenience.
- yesim: Need a local SIM for Lapland? A stress-free holiday nowadays (unfortunately) might start from a good connection, so get an eSIM with unlimited or prepaid data.
- Ekta Traveling: Not interested in checking out the Finnish public health care system on your holiday? Didn’t think so 🙂 Good insurance gets that stress out of the way.
