At Santa’s Igloos Arctic Circle you fall asleep under a heated glass roof a few minutes’ walk from Santa’s own office, so the day’s visit and the night under the sky share one address. It suits first-timers and Christmas families who want everything on foot; anyone chasing the darkest skies will be happier further out.

Which igloo should you book?
Four types, all with a heated glass ceiling over the bed, floor heating, a shower and a tablet that sounds the aurora alarm. The differences are size, who fits and whether you get your own sauna or hot tub.
| Igloo type | Size | Sleeps | Sauna or tub | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium Igloo (49 of them) | 19.2 m² | 2 + 1 extra bed | No | 821€ |
| Premium Igloo with Sauna (10) | 23.2 m² | 2 + 1 | Private sauna | 1,027€ |
| Premium Igloo with Hot Tub (2) | 19.2 m² | 2 + 1 | Private outdoor hot tub | 1,163€ |
| Premium Igloo with Alcove (10) | 28.2 m² | 4 + 1 | No | 1,266€ |
In the alcove igloo only two of the four beds lie under the glass; the alcove itself is small and works best for children. Each sauna igloo is paired with an alcove igloo through a connecting door, which opens only if you ask, so a family or group can book both sides.

What a night includes
Breakfast at Restaurant Arctic Eye, 07:00 to 10:30, plus tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the igloo, free WiFi and free parking behind the main building with a limited number of engine heaters. Minibar items are charged. The room holds 21 to 22°C (70 to 72°F) automatically, and a button by the door heats and de-ices the glass for 15 minutes at a time.
Arctic Eye serves à la carte daily 17:00 to 22:00, kitchen closing at 21:30, from autumn through spring, and there is a lobby bar. Beds are made daily, bedding changed every third day. Check-in is 16:00, check-out 11:00.
How far is it from the airport and Santa’s office?
Rovaniemi airport is about 5 km away, so a taxi or transfer is roughly ten minutes; the city centre and railway station are about 10 km. Santa’s office, the post office and the Arctic Circle line are a few minutes on foot, and a husky park sits a couple of hundred metres off. Bus 8 and the Santa Claus Bus run between town and the village daily in winter. Book a taxi ahead rather than expecting one to be waiting.
Will you see the northern lights from bed?
Sometimes, yes. The igloos face north, the glass is kept clear and the tablet wakes you when the lights come out. But Santa Claus Village is lit, and the glow sits on the horizon exactly where a weak aurora appears. A bright display punches through; a faint one gets washed out. If the lights are the reason for the trip, pair a night here with a tour that drives away from town, or stay somewhere darker. Check the Finnish Meteorological Institute forecast before you go out.
What guests warn about
The rooms are compact. At 19.2 m² the standard igloo is tight once three people and their suitcases are in it. Soundproofing between a connected sauna and alcove igloo is weak, so you may hear your neighbours. The lower windows have curtains; how much the glass ceiling can be screened depends on who you ask, so expect to sleep in view of the sky. Hot water runs about 20 minutes and then needs about 20 minutes to recover. Autumn 2026 guests also reported building work and a bumpy path on site, and slow replies to the tablet chat during the limited-reception months.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
It suits couples and families on one or two nights who want Santa Claus Village on foot, a heated glass roof and no transfer in the dark. The sauna and alcove pair is the best family option in Rovaniemi’s igloo market. Look elsewhere if you want a wilderness setting, a dark horizon, a roomy space for three or more with luggage, or complete privacy from the igloo next door.
Alternatives nearby
Glass Resort is also inside the village, with glass apartments, private saunas and outdoor hot tubs. Apukka Resort has lakeside glass cabins, darker skies and its own activity programme about ten minutes from the airport. Arctic SnowHotel runs 360-degree glass igloos by a lake half an hour out. Halo Igloos sits away from the city lights, and SkyView has 50 igloo suites on a hill above town.
How far ahead to book
There are only ten sauna igloos and two with a hot tub, so those go first; if you want one, book as soon as your dates are fixed. The cheaper plain igloos sell out early in peak season too. Several of my test dates showed nothing available at all, including early and late December, so Christmas and February half-term want months of lead time. September and October give the best aurora-to-price balance. Families should request the connecting door at the time of booking.
How I researched this
Facts come from santashotels.fi (the hotel, rooms, guest room info and restaurant pages) in October 2026, with detail from a Santa Claus Village directory, an igloo comparison site, a sponsored blogger stay and 2026 guest reviews on Trip.com. Rates were read from Booking.com on 15 October 2026. Nobody from Lapland Trip Planner has stayed here; the verdict is a researched comparison, not a review.
Common questions
Is Santa’s Igloos open in summer?
Yes, it is open all year, and the hotel points to the midnight sun and the autumn colours as well as winter. Reception runs 24 hours from 1 November to 31 March and on limited hours in September, October and April.
Is one night enough?
One or two nights is what most people book, and it is the sensible length. The igloo is the experience, not the base; after two nights the compact room and the lit horizon start to matter, and cheaper hotels in town do the rest of the trip better.
Can I fly a drone or smoke in the igloo?
No to both. Drones are prohibited on the site, and all igloos are non-smoking with a 350€ fine for smoking indoors. If you want aurora photos, shoot from outside the igloo on a tripod.
Best Booking Resources for Lapland
These are the booking tools I keep coming back to. They consistently offer the best prices, the most relevant options for northern Finland, and actually work well for Lapland-specific searches, which not all platforms do.
- Kiwi.com: The best source for finding flights and airport connections. I have noticed they find flight connections that other search engines miss.
- Booking.com: I almost always use them for booking hotels and apartments (and occasionally flights). They have the best filters and I like the user-friendly interface.
- Hotels.com: The most popular hotel booking platform in many countries, US included.
- Get Your Guide: A massive selection of tours and excursions, including aurora tours, husky rides, reindeer experiences and more!
- EconomyBookings: Want to explore Lapland or chase auroras yourself? They pool together the best offers from car rental operators for your convenience.
- yesim: Need a local SIM for Lapland? A stress-free holiday nowadays (unfortunately) might start from a good connection, so get an eSIM with unlimited or prepaid data.
- Ekta Traveling: Not interested in checking out the Finnish public health care system on your holiday? Didn’t think so 🙂 Good insurance gets that stress out of the way.
